Today, on May 6th, an online meeting was held as part of ITU Legal Talks, organised by the IT Ukraine Association with the participation of legal partner — Avitar. The topic of the meeting was ‘E-commerce Compliance and Website Accessibility for People with Disabilities.’

Consent: Users must provide their consent for data processing and transactions.
Control: Users must have control over their data and accounts.
Who are the regulators?
FTC(Federal Trade Commission) — regulates consumer protection rights in the US.
EU Commission on Consumer Protection — is responsible for consumer protection in the EU.
The Antimonopoly Committee and the State Consumer Protection Service — regulate the Ukrainian market.
WCAG(Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) —standards for web content accessibility.
Google, Apple, Microsoft — major technology companies set standards for their products.
Websites must include documents that establish contractual relationships between users and the website, namely:
Terms of Use — regulate user interaction with the site.
Privacy Notice — explains how personal data is processed.
Terms of Sale — outlines the rules for purchasing goods or services via the site.
Cookie Policy — informs users about the use of cookies on the site.
Accessibility means having the following functionality:
Font size and contrast for ease of use by individuals with visual impairments.
Navigation without a mouse: ensuring navigation via keyboard and voice commands.
Content narration for individuals with visual disabilities.The importance of adhering to WCAG standards to ensure website inclusivity.
Why are documents on the website important?
User Trust: Having documents increases trust.
Protection from fines: Having these documents helps avoid sanctions.
Consumer protection: Clearly defined terms protect both users and businesses.
The European Accessibility Act sets requirements for accessibility for all EU citizens and will come into effect on June 28, 2025.
