Core Skills 2.0 is a valuable platform for educators and students featuring topics, tests, and tasks on fundamental IT disciplines, developed by industry leaders.
The goal of the project is to create practical recommendations for the IT industry on fundamental educational disciplines in the field of knowledge “12: Information Technologies”. For educators, it serves as a resource for updating educational programs and detailing learning outcomes, while for students, it functions as a tool for testing knowledge according to the requirements from the IT industry.
The platform is already available at: https://coreskills.itukraine.org.ua/
The platform provides a list of modules and topics recommended by the IT community for IT professionals. It offers a new level of detailing learning outcomes, beneficial for both educators and students. Educators can use industry recommendations to improve the learning programs, while students can work on building a successful career in IT from the first year and align with industry requirements,
– says Denys Grynov, Vice President on Educational issues, Head of EРАМ University in Ukraine.
According to experts, the advantages of the platform are evident. Educators receive a set of interesting tasks developed by industry practitioners, allowing them to grow professionally and enhance teaching programs. This will, in turn, contribute to the improvement and updating of relevant educational programs.
IT education in Ukraine should fully meet industry demands. After graduation, students should enter the labor market, not spend time on reskilling or upskilling. Quality offers go to those who have current knowledge and skills and are ready to create real, working products. Thanks to Core Skills 2.0, students will know exactly what kind of specialists the industry needs, and educators will be able to update their materials according to the industry needs,
– says Head of the expert group on investment attraction and lead of educational projects in IT at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Diana Rakus.
The project implementation continues and involves adding tests and tasks to the platform, as well as introducing new disciplines to assess the competencies of students and graduates with the issuance of a corresponding certificate.
The idea of creating the Core Skills 2.0 platform is extremely relevant. For a long time, the IT community in Ukraine has been trying to develop mechanisms and approaches to update the process of training specialists for the IT industry in higher education institutions.
Students receive a more practical-oriented educational process, expanding their opportunities for successful employment. They will have the opportunity to test their knowledge in line with modern IT industry requirements. Particularly useful and interesting for students could be an opportunity of certification on the basis of the Core Skills 2.0 platform, which will be implemented in the second stage of this project.
IT companies will have more competent candidates for employment. This can partially solve the problem of insufficient practical orientation of the educational process in higher education institutions and the qualification of teaching staff
– noted in the sectoral expert council of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance.
Companies-partners such as EPAM, GlobalLogic, Luxoft, COAX Software, Softserve, Go IT, and Mate academy have joined the Core Skills 2.0 project. The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance.
