Iron for Life: SoftServe’s Open Eyes Charity Fund Launches Implant Support Program for the Wounded

Iron for Life: SoftServe's Open Eyes Charity Fund Launches Implant Support Program for the Wounded

The Open Eyes Charity Fund, founded by SoftServe, has launched Iron for Life, a new project to support implant surgeries for Ukrainians injured because of the full-scale war in Ukraine. The project is the next step in strengthening the medical evacuation direction the fund has been building since 2022. While the “Drive for Life” project helps to save lives, “Iron for Life” helps patients complete the journey toward full recovery.

Through the initiative, the fund provides partner hospitals with the implants required for surgery. Each implant is tailored to a specific need, and the speed at which it can be manufactured and delivered often determines how quickly a patient can undergo treatment and begin rehabilitation. The fund supports implant surgeries for Ukrainian defenders, medics, rescuers, and civilians, including children, who have suffered injuries.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, we have consistently supported medical evacuation efforts across Ukraine. Our ambulances help save lives during the most critical moments, but for many patients, the road to recovery does not end there. Our new project “Iron for Life” continues that journey. We want people not only to survive, but also to regain mobility, return to work, reunite with their families, and be back to their everyday lives. For us, this is about metal that gives people a second chance, not destroys. Every successful surgery means another life preserved for Ukraine’s future,

said Viktoriia Mishchuk, Director of Charity Fund “Open Eyes”.

The project currently supports 17 hospitals and is planned to expand to more than 30 medical institutions across Ukraine, from the Kharkiv region to Zakarpattia. Through direct partnerships with hospitals, the fund ensures that implants are delivered in time for surgeries ranging from orthopedic procedures to neurosurgical and spinal operations. This support will enable between 2000 and 5000 surgeries annually.

Thanks to the Open Eyes Charity Fund, our trauma department is able to provide advanced medical care to Ukraine’s defenders. We perform surgeries that restore limb function and help service members return both to duty and to everyday life. Previously, these implants and surgical supplies were available only in military hospitals, which were unable to handle a huge number of cases. Thanks to the fund’s support, our department is now the only facility in the region capable of providing this type of care to the patients,

said Tamara, a representative of a partner hospital.

“Iron for Life” aims to help thousands of wounded Ukrainians complete the journey from survival to recovery. Those wishing to support implant surgeries through the initiative can join and contribute via the project website.

Since 2022, the Open Eyes Charity Fund has delivered 424 ambulances to military units and medical teams, as well as 130 electronic warfare systems to help protect evacuation vehicles. Iron for Life represents the next step in this continuum of support — from saving lives to restoring them.
