Small Business and Big Data: How to Use Analytics Without Large Expenditures

Small Business and Big Data: How to Use Analytics Without Large Expenditures

In modern business, intuition no longer works—those who rely on data prevail. This was stated by Pavlo Moiseev, an expert in digital transformation and analytics, during his presentation, “Data as the Foundation for Business Development,” held as part of the “Vidvazhna 3. The Digital Evolution of Business” women’s accelerator.

The official representative of Tietoevry Create’s partner in Ukraine stressed:

  • When a company makes decisions based on facts, it predicts the future rather than reacting post-factum. That is why the shift to a data-driven approach is a transition from chaos to systematic development, from reaction to planning.
  • For decision-making, basic metrics are sufficient: sales, customers, costs, margin, and inquiries. 80% of management conclusions can be drawn from just 20% of this data. What matters is not the quantity of information, but its quality and regularity of collection.
  • Regular analysis of metrics allows for strategy correction, resource allocation, and making informed decisions that ensure the company’s resilience even during periods of turbulence.
  • The team must become accustomed to analytical thinking: daily short reports, open dashboards instead of reports in chats, and the question “What data confirms this?” in every discussion.
  • To implement a data culture, you do not need your own IT department. Simple solutions suffice: Google Sheets, CRM (Uspacy, KeyCRM, NetHunt), Power BI, or Looker Studio. They help quickly collect, structure, and visualise information without large expenditures.

The expert advises starting small: conducting a data audit, automating at least one process, creating basic visualisations, training the team to use the results, and improving the system monthly.

The new season of the visionary women’s accelerator Vidvazhna 3. The Digital Evolution of Business is delivered by the Diia.Business network of entrepreneurship support centres in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office, with the support of UNDP in Ukraine and financial assistance from the Government of Japan under the project Transformational Recovery for Human Security in Ukraine, and within the framework of the global initiative She’s Next Empowered by Visa, in partnership with the IT Ukraine Association.
