National IT industry continuously generates foreign currency

National IT industry continuously generates foreign currency

IT Ukraine

Ukrainian IT export presents a stable and expanding sector of the national economy, even in the new military realities. Thus, according to the National Bank of Ukraine, the export-oriented IT industry provided $ 3 billion 179 million worth of foreign currency incomes to the Ukrainian economy for the first five months of 2022. At the same time, during the period from March to May, when the War has already been ongoing, the volume of exports of computer services increased by 6% compared to the same period of the last year and amounted to $ 1,7 bln.

Positive trends in the expansion and stabilization of the IT market were demonstrated by the first quarter of 2022, which registered a record $ 2 bln of export earnings and the export of computer services maintaining at 96% in the state of War during March.

According to the latest IT Ukraine survey, 56% of participating companies expect growth of 5-30% in 2022.  41% of companies expect to keep existing volumes at 50-100%.

Remaining an economic support for the state in Wartime, the IT business pays taxes conscientiously, and a number of companies pay them in advance.  As of June 1, 2022, IT companies and individual entrepreneurs working in the IT industry transferred to the consolidated budget of Ukraine tax payments and fees in the amount of UAH 29 billion 558 million.

The preservation of the volume of IT business in Ukraine and, consequently, tax revenues to the state budget, is affected not only by the War but the risks connected to it which are taken into account by our global customers. Today, it is also about unresolved issues regarding new booking procedures for IT specialists and their temporary departure abroad for business trips, as well as the National Bank’s revision of the exchange rate policy. Without solving these problems, it will be extremely difficult to talk about further attracting new contracts to Ukraine and further growth of the industry in the near future
— Konstantyn Vasyuk, Executive Director of the Association.
