From Ethics to Resilience: What Defines the Future of Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine

At the national forum FUTUREPROOF: Where AI Meets Sustainability, organized by the UN Global Compact in Ukraine and UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group, one of the central themes was the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in line with the principles of sustainability, ethics, and transparency.

 

The FUTUREPROOF forum brought together Ukrainian and international experts, businesses, state institutions, and UN organizations. For the IT industry, it served as a platform for shaping the future of the Ukrainian and European AI market in the coming years.

 

Speaking at the event on behalf of the IT Ukraine Association was Oleksandr Kabanets, Senior analyst at the IT Industry Development and Advocacy Center, IT Ukraine Association. He outlined the path Ukraine can take to create a modern, resilient, and competitive AI ecosystem.

 

Modern AI education can only be built through a partnership between the state, business, and universities. According to the expert, the future model should simultaneously include: basic AI literacy for broad segments of the population; professional programmes for specific roles; deep master’s tracks for engineers; the training of coaches and lecturers; the integration of high-quality external courses into university curricula.

 

Ukraine has already completed a significant amount of work to become integrated into the European AI community. A Voluntary Code of Ethical AI Use is active, based at the IT Ukraine Association and the Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law, and a specialised Self-Regulatory Organisation (SRO) has been established based on this code.

 

Ukraine can already serve as an example for the EU in three areas: 

• the speed of scaling digital solutions; 
• the use of AI in security and defence;
• the partnership model of interaction between the state, business, and professional associations

 

In his speech, Oleksandr Kabanets emphasised that the main indicator of business maturity in working with Artificial Intelligence will not be the technical ability to implement models, but rather managerial integrity, attitude towards people, and readiness for transparency.
