‘The Code Economy’ Presented Internationally for the First Time

'The Code Economy' Presented Internationally for the First Time

IT Ukraine

At the UAtech Venture Night held alongside SaaStr Annual in San Mateo (near San Francisco), IT Ukraine Association Executive Director Mariia Shevchuk presented the Code Economy research to an international audience for the first time. The event brought together global investors, startup founders, and technology industry leaders from Silicon Valley.

The event was opened by Dmytro Kushnieruk, Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco, and moderated by Nazarii Hulyk, IT Ukraine Association Ambassador to the USA and CEO & Founder of Empat.

For the first time, an international audience received a comprehensive overview of the Ukrainian IT sector’s economic impact: the scale of the industry, export structure, market geography, the state of the startup ecosystem, and the relationship between technological maturity and economic resilience.

The Code Economy gives global players verified data on the Ukrainian technology market, unlocking its investment potential:

  • Market transparency: The research covers 2,243 verified companies and over 2,700 startups.
  • Macroeconomic impact: The IT sector accounts for 12% of the country’s total exports and 41.6% of all Ukrainian service exports.
  • Investment insights: The analysis highlights nearly 19-fold growth in the DefenceTech sector and the strong appeal of AI-driven startups, which attract 2.8 times more capital.
  • Geographic integration: 51% of Ukrainian IT exports go to Europe and 36% to the USA, confirming compatibility with Western markets.

The research attracted particular interest owing to its methodological foundation. It is based on the model of “creative destruction” developed by Philippe Aghion, who received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2025 for his research on innovation-driven growth.

For the international community, Ukraine’s experience has become a unique case study: no other country has demonstrated such a pace of digital transformation under the pressure of global challenges and full-scale war. This makes Ukrainian data critically important to the global conversation about the role of technology in the structural resilience of states in times of crisis.

The presentation of the Code Economy in Silicon Valley marks an important step towards strengthening collaboration between Ukraine and the global technology community. The research creates a shared analytical framework for investors and partners, opening new opportunities for investment and strategic business partnerships.
