ITU congratulates the IT community on the official establishment of Programmer’s Day — 7 January

We recognise that at the beginning of the year, the process of adopting and signing decisions requires time and takes place with due consideration of numerous priority issues. At the same time, the IT Ukraine Association regards 7 January as the inaugural date for the renewed celebration of Programmer’s Day in Ukraine, sharing this practice with the international IT community.

 

The IT industry is one of the key drivers of Ukraine’s economy:

• It operates predominantly in export markets, with around 95% of the industry’s service exports directed abroad, ensuring a stable inflow of foreign currency into the economy.
• Within Ukraine’s overall exports (goods and services), the IT industry ranks second, and it holds first place among service exports. It also occupies second place in terms of contribution to GDP.
• The IT sector is the only one among the top five exporters to have increased its share of exports over the past five years.
• The industry shapes a positive image of Ukraine as a reliable technology partner in more than 100 countries worldwide.

 

Ukrainian programmers, engineers and developers are shaping the digital future and directly influencing all sectors of the national economy. 

 

The establishment of this professional day enhances public and media attention towards the IT industry and reinforces its status as a strategic sector of the economy. The format of a professional celebration will also contribute to the promotion of technology-related careers among young people and create additional opportunities for industry forums, hackathons and educational initiatives.

 

Moreover, the designation of a single date provides an annual focal point for promoting IT and STEM professions, career guidance activities, educational initiatives, and strengthening Ukraine’s positive image as a technology-driven nation.
