How the IT industry is contributing to Ukraine's victory

The IT industry remains an island of economic stability for Ukraine, even a month after the war broke out.

According to a survey conducted by the IT Ukraine Association, since the very beginning of the war, almost 2% of IT professionals mainly with a military experience have joined the Armed Forces. In some small companies with a staff of up to 200 people, 20% of specialists joined the army.

5% of IT experts are highly involved in the fight at the information front, in the field of state cybersecurity and support of critical infrastructure facilities. At the same time, there are companies where almost 100% of specialists work in the cyber forces right now.

Ukraine’s economy is now defended by more than 85% of IT professionals.

IT companies were able to adapt quickly to new circumstances, because most of them had anti-crisis business plans. Shortly before the war, a number of specialists were relocated from the eastern regions. Currently, more than 70% of IT professionals work in safe regions of Ukraine, the other 16%, mostly women, work abroad.

Most companies have resumed their work, from 50 to 80% of specialists are involved in the implementation of client projects. Due to this, the industry remains financially stable, as 77% of companies have retained almost all customers and the volume of their contracts.

All citizens of Ukraine today are trying to do their best to win the war. Therefore, the Ukrainian IT industry remains a stable source of foreign exchange earnings in the country’s economy and helps ensure the digital security of the state. IT companies provide financial assistance to our defenders and citizens. During the first days of the war, IT companies transferred more than $ 25 million to support the Army, citizens with humanitarian aid and the country with taxes paid in advance. Currently, the IT industry is one of the few that can be the basis of the rear and economy recovery, reducing the risks of humanitarian catastrophe due to the loss of jobs by the vast majority of the population
— said Konstantin Vasyuk, Executive Director of the Association of IT Ukraine.
30 IT companies that are members of the Association of IT Ukraine participated in the survey. These companies employ 34 thousand IT professionals. This is a small share of the total number of IT specialists in the market (285 thousand in 2021), but even their contribution to the future victory of Ukraine is significant. 100% of the companies surveyed continue to pay taxes and direct financial and human resources to support the army and humanitarian goals. IT Ukraine Association is a community of leading IT companies with development centers in Ukraine, employing more than 75,000 IT professionals. The Association unites the interests of business, the state and international partners for the development of the IT industry in Ukraine and supports the brand of Ukraine as a leading technology country in the global market.
