On December 24, the first meeting of the working group of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence was held to refine draft laws No. 11492 and No. 11492-1. These drafts propose amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” to prohibit the use of certain software products, particularly software.
Oleksandr Fedienko, the head of the subcommittee on cybersecurity, government communication, and cryptographic information protection, chaired the inaugural meeting of the working group. The secretary of the working group is Mariia Shevchuk, Executive Director of the IT Ukraine Association.
The working group includes members of the IT Ukraine Association and other business organizations, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, the Office for Effective Regulation, and other entities.
Following the meeting, it was decided to develop a new draft law, taking into account the remarks and proposals of the working group participants. The emphasis will be on banning Russian software for state bodies and critical infrastructure, without restricting content or websites. The basis of the draft law will be the Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems, a key legislative act of the European Union aimed at strengthening cybersecurity. The preparation of the revised draft law is scheduled to take two months.
