Women in Tech: How Intellias is empowering women’s development, careers, and leadership

Women in Tech: How Intellias is empowering women’s development, careers, and leadership

Publication date:

Publication from:

Intellias

Intellias is actively working to implement the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) into work processes and the corporate culture. The number of female specialists at Intellias is growing, and the company is creating even more professional opportunities for them.

In 2021, Intellias became the first IT company in Ukraine to sign the WEPs, initiated by the UN Global Compact and UN Women. By signing the Women’s Empowerment Principles, Intellias aimed to structure its actions and work to systematically reduce inequality in the IT field. Every year, Intellias evaluates the effectiveness of its implementation of WEP principles and related initiatives.

WEPs results

The WEPs Gender Gap Analysis Tool allows companies to measure their progress in implementing the Women’s Empowerment Principles. It assesses implementation in four areas: leadership, management, workplace and conditions, and market and community.

According to this tool, Intellias has already almost tripled the effectiveness of implementing all principles, from 14% in 2021 to 58% in March 2024.

  • The percentage of female specialists at Intellias increased from 26% at the beginning of 2021 to 28.4% at the beginning of 2024.
  • The number of female specialists in delivery is now 18.2%, compared to 17% in 2021.
  • Women occupy 47.8% of management positions, compared to 35.16% in 2021.

IntelliWomen Community

The IntelliWomen Community, which was created at Intellias after signing the WEPs, now unites 450 participants, or 60% of the company’s female specialists. IntelliWomen is a space for mutual support and professional growth. Members of the IntelliWomen Community have already held 15 meetings and participated in more than 25 external events aimed at empowering women.

In particular, Intellias specialists have supported women who were forced to leave their homes due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine by supporting a digital literacy course provided through the NGO Femwork. Additionally, the IntelliWomen Community regularly supports women in the Ukrainian military. The community purchased 100 sets of women’s winter uniforms and 120 pairs of women’s tactical shoes after fundraising around $26,000. Another fundraiser for 50 sets of uniforms is underway.

In 2024, the IntelliWomen Community initiative won several global awards, including:

  • Silver at the prestigious Bulgarian Forbes HR & Employer Branding Awards
  • Special award from the jury of the SoDA Awards competition in Poland

Learning, development, and leadership

Together with the Kyiv School of Economics, Intellias launched the IntelliLeader online training program in 2023. Among its participants are female leaders and managers. Attending workshops and individual coaching sessions, participants reveal their potential, strengthen their leadership skills, and work on their own projects.

Every year, Intellias joins the Hour of Code and other initiatives to promote the empowerment of women in IT. Intellias specialists are also happy to share their experience with female professionals who are just starting their careers. This year, female students of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Ukrainian Catholic University had the opportunity to join the IntelliMapLab and IntelliDrive educational programs: joint initiatives of Intellias and participating universities through which Intellias specialists become mentors.

She Is Tech Conference

Intellias is committed to sharing best practices and promoting ideas of gender equality in tech. In 2024, with the support of UN Women in Ukraine, Intellias held the first large-scale She Is Tech online conference, which brought together more than 2,500 IT specialists from around the world. Top managers, entrepreneurs, leaders, and public figures discussed how gender balance can contribute to the evolution of technology.

The discussions were divided into three thematic blocks: leadership, work environment, and communities. Conference attendees also had the opportunity to interact in the chat room, which has now turned into a space for continued communication and collaboration.

Responsible parenting

Adhering to the policy of responsible parenthood, Intellias supports women specialists during and after pregnancy. From 2023, care leave and other benefits are also available to colleagues who have become guardians of children.

The possibility of choosing a convenient time and working format (at home, in the office, or a combination of both options) allows parents to comfortably organize their workday. As part of the company’s commitment to responsible parenting, Intellias has created the IntelliParents Community that brings together parents to share experiences, communicate, and get support.

Company policies

Equality, diversity, and inclusion is one of the core values at Intellias. For effective EDI implementation into the corporate culture and work processes, the company has developed several policies, including the Equal Opportunities Policy and the Diversity Hiring Policy. Intellias has also signed the Declaration for Gender Equality and Prevention of Domestic Violence developed by the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine.

Intellias will continue striving to ensure that the work environment and career growth process within the company are comfortable for all specialists. Plans for 2024 include hosting the She Is Tech Conference 2.0, launching a mentorship program for female professionals, and implementing a number of initiatives within the IntelliParents and IntelliWomen communities.
