What Educational Directions is GlobalLogic Developing in Ukraine?

GlobalLogic Ukraine is the silver sponsor of the annual Synergy 2021. IT Business & IT Education Conference. We spoke with Yevhen Sakalo, the head of the GlobalLogic Ukraine university program, about how the company is developing its education and why it is supporting the conference.

Within the GlobalLogic Education platform, the company develops several educational directions at once:

  • GL BaseCamp. These are courses of lectures and practical classes for students and novice developers who have basic knowledge of programming. On average, a company receives approximately 250-300+ registrations per BaseCamp, of which 40-50 people get to the group (if it is a cross-location BaseCamp). As of November, 7,500+ participants (appr. 27 programs) have applied for GL BaseCamp since the beginning of the year;
  • GL ProCamp. These are courses of lectures and practical classes, designed for professionals who already have 2-3 years of experience in commercial development. GlobalLogic receives approximately 50 registrations per ProCamp, of which 20-25 people are selected per group. 750+ participants have applied for 15 programs;
  • Trainee program. This one allows doing an internship on a real project in the company and thus gain the first commercial experience;
  • R&D projects with universities, where a group of students under the guidance of a mentor from the company works on tasks that are as close as possible to the real tasks of the industry. They learn to create a software product, to work in a team, and communicate with the customer and more. For example, GlobalLogic mentors together with Lviv Polytechnic University professors joined the implementation of a prototype security system that distinguishes a living person from a fake photo or video image developed by students of the Artificial Intelligence Systems Department. The built-in algorithm identifies fakes in real time. According to the developers, the technology can be used to equip security systems for front doors, to identify suspects in crimes or to search for missing persons. The work lasted 5 months;
  • Joint educational programs. These range from courses to certificate, bachelor’s and master’s programs at partner universities. For example, this year Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, together with GlobalLogic, launched High-Performance Computing, an updated program of dual education, majoring in specialization 121 “Software Engineering.”

Cooperation with universities is also one of the strategic directions for the company and a wide range of tasks for GlobalLogic Education. The company opens training laboratories, supports university events, and organizes training programs for lecturers and more. For example, this year GlobalLogic started cooperation with Vinnytsia National Technical University, Sumy State University and Odesa Polytechnic.

The rapid development of the IT industry in Ukraine and, as a result, the high demand for engineering talents encourages companies to invest in the development of IT education as a priority for business development. Reforming IT education, which includes improving the quality of training for beginners, and updating curricula, and the development of facilities and resources of educational institutions, as well as support for lecturers, is a focus for our company in the coming years,
— says Yevhen Sakalo, the head of the GlobalLogic Ukraine university program.
The company also emphasizes the importance of supporting non-formal IT education, which is represented by external educational programs (training), as well as supporting IT education in schools. It is worth mentioning, that Synergy 2021. IT Business & IT Education Conference, which unites Ukrainian IT business and education, will take place on December 16-17. This year’s conference combines online and offline formats. You can get acquainted with the program and buy tickets by following the link: https://cutt.ly/rTD7mlW.
