In the first half of 2023, the export of IT services from Ukraine decreased by 9.3% compared to the same period in the previous year, amounting to $3.38 billion. Additionally, according to data from the National Bank of Ukraine, the figure for June of this year alone reached $573 million.
In the current situation, witnessing the growth of the IT industry based on the results of the past six months would be nothing short of a miracle. Regrettably, the positive scenario of preserving export volumes and halting the decline in export indicators of IT services did not materialise either. As a result, the data from the six-month period clearly indicates a trend towards a decrease in Ukrainian IT export volumes,
Kostyantyn Vasyuk, Executive Director of the IT Ukraine Association, commented.
As reported by the IT Ukraine Association, citing the National Bank of Ukraine, the export of IT services from Ukraine decreased by 16% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to $1.68 billion. In 2022, the IT industry contributed a currency income of $7.35 billion to the Ukrainian economy, with taxes amounting to 32.2 billion hryvnias.
Our IT industry has retained expertise and personnel in Ukraine, but in order to maintain competitive advantages in the global market, this is not enough, so companies are forced to develop foreign offices in order to retain existing ones and attract new customers. However, in Ukraine, IT companies are actively investing in new developments in the field of defence-tech and cyber security. Although such projects do not increase the export indicators of the budget, they do much more – they create new, unique products for the future and help defend our country today,
Kostyantyn Vasyuk added.
