About the research

“The Code Economy” is the first comprehensive study built on economic modelling and the theory of creative destruction developed by Nobel Prize-winning economists. It assesses the structural impact of the IT industry on the long-term transformation of Ukraine’s economy. The research was prepared by the analytical firm DataDriven, commissioned by IT Ukraine Association in partnership with UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group, KyivstarTech, and MODUS X, with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

The study’s theoretical framework is the creative destruction model developed by Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt, which enables assessment of IT’s role as a catalyst for the structural transformation of Ukraine’s economy. This concept explains the mechanism of economic growth through a process whereby new technologies displace outdated ones, radically increasing the productivity of the entire system. The significance of this approach was recognised at the highest academic level: in 2025, Philippe Aghion, Peter Howitt, and Joel Mokyr were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for their foundational explanation of innovation-driven growth and the role of technological change in national development. It is precisely this framework that allows Ukraine’s IT sector to be analysed not merely as a standalone industry, but as the driving force behind the country’s transition to a new economic model.
