GigaCloud is the First in Ukraine to Receive VMware Sovereign Cloud Provider Status

GigaCloud, a leader in the Ukrainian cloud technology market, has become the first company in Ukraine to receive the status of VMware Sovereign Cloud Provider. This status confirms that GigaCloud’s services comply with the concept of a sovereign cloud, which is especially relevant given the new security challenges. The demand for such solutions in Ukraine has increased due to threats from the aggressors, as sovereign clouds provide protection for critical data.

VMware Sovereign Cloud encompasses several key principles:

• Data Sovereignty and Jurisdictional Control: All data is stored, processed, and accessible within a single country or region, and is subject to local legislation.
• Data Availability and Integrity: Providers must enable clients to store data in at least two locations and ensure backup, disaster recovery, micro-segmentation and more.
• Data Security and Compliance: This includes security monitoring, compliance with industry or government standards, a Zero Trust model in cybersecurity and data encryption.
• Data Independence and Mobility: This ensures ease of data migration to and from the cloud, the use of modern architectures (e.g., containerization) and the possibility of building hybrid solutions.

The need for a sovereign cloud is not a trend, but a necessity. More and more companies and government organizations are seeking to ensure that the storage of confidential data adheres to the best global practices and current Ukrainian legislation. At the end of 2023, following Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, all previous certificates were annulled, and partners were required to reaffirm their competencies. GigaCloud became one of the first in Ukraine to obtain the status of VMware Cloud Service Provider (VCSP) at the Premier Partner level at the beginning of 2024.
