EPAM Campus Survey –– How Future IT Specialists Envision Their ‘Dream Jobs’

Aspiring IT professionals value the opportunity to work remotely (17%), earn a high salary (14%), and develop professionally (13%) the most. These findings are based on a survey conducted among participants of the EPAM Campus “IT Technology Marathon,” where students shared their perceptions of the ideal job.

Among the most popular job criteria, respondents also mentioned a friendly team, flexible working hours, personal growth opportunities, and engaging tasks. Interestingly, younger respondents more frequently expressed a desire to “be useful” and “change the world,” while older participants highlighted factors such as work-life balance and access to medical insurance.

For entry-level specialists, the fundamental criteria remain consistent. However, we observe that young people are striving to be more useful and expect the same from their employer, paying close attention to a company’s values. Future professionals find social initiatives, involvement in volunteering projects, and opportunities for growth in the workplace particularly important,

– says Denys Grynov, Head of Educational Programmes at EPAM Ukraine and ITU Vice President on Educational Issues.

The feeling of happiness that comes from being in the right place. The childlike excitement when you go to bed thinking about how wonderful the next day will be,

– described one participant when talking about their dream job.

Respondents also shared these answers: “Working for the benefit of humanity,” “Creating cool products on the level of Tony Stark,” and “Not having to wake up at 6 or 7 a.m. for the dream job.” Other criteria included “a high salary and free coffee.”

Additionally, 58% of respondents indicated that they are already working in IT or combining work with their studies. The war influenced the career choice of 51% of participants, and 74% are keeping an eye on the most in-demand professions in the market.

5-22 November survey pool of EPAM Campus learning marathon participants consisted of 774 responders.
