And now, a couple of interesting things.
From the
fourth quarter of 2020 and during 2021, salaries at all levels have been
growing steadily. One of the reasons is the disproportionate increase in demand compared to the current talent supply. In other words,
the companies are looking for more talent than the market can offer.
Other significant factors are
employee retention and
competition for specialists. The combination of these processes creates favorable conditions for salary growth.
The 2021 salary growth dynamics for technical specialists looks like this:

And a couple of more insights:
- The demand for unqualified specialists shows that companies are interested in growing tech talent from the ground up tailor-made for specific requirements. A $1500/month salary can be a real thing for those who have just graduated and have a couple of months of experience working on personal projects.
- Salaries of junior specialists increased by 20-25%. However, salary growth at this level has slowed due to increased demand for unskilled professionals.
- Salaries for Middle specialists have increased by 50-100% on average since previous years. Senior and Lead specialists are valued the most and are the most fiercely fought for. Companies can offer 150% for the middle-level and 50% for the senior level. In some cases, the salaries of Middle specialists have begun to equal those of senior specialists.
- Senior specialists’ salaries increased by 30-40% on average, but there’s a catch. Unlike middle specialists, companies prefer internal recruitment for senior and lead specialists. This approach is a viable option because such specialists are already familiar with the project and the company’s processes, which explains the lower level of salary growth. However, when a company is looking for a Senior specialist externally, the offer can increase 50-60%.
