‘Backpacks of Life 2.0’ — Project Has Been Prolonged

‘Backpacks of Life 2.0’ — Project Has Been Prolonged

Publication date:

  • 12.03.2025

Publication from:

EPAM

To mark the 20th anniversary of the company’s operations in Ukraine, ITU Member EPAM, together with the Leleka Ukraine Charity Foundation, will donate medical supplies worth 10 million UAH to combat medics. The partners also plan to attract additional funds through the support of colleagues, project ambassadors of “Backpacks of Life 2.0” and the public.

Last year, EPAM allocated $300,000 (approximately ₴12.6 million) for the purchase of tactical medical equipment for Ukrainian defenders. This enabled the provision of 300 backpacks filled with necessary medical supplies. Another 40 such backpacks were purchased through additional activities within the project and the help of concerned Ukrainians. Each backpack helps save up to 10 lives, both military and civilian.

When we talk about quality, it’s not always about foreign suppliers. Today, part of the backpacks consist of products from Ukrainian manufacturers, made to modern standards. Combat medics themselves are consulted in the development process,

— shares Iryna Huk, Head of the Foundation.

This year, EPAM has allocated an additional ₴10 million to continue the project. The first tranche of funds has already been used to purchase 40 fully equipped backpacks. The contents of the basic backpack include tourniquets, haemostatic bandages, occlusive dressings, bandages, nasopharyngeal airway tubes, thermal blankets, paramedic scissors, stretchers, etc.

Due to the full-scale invasion, the healthcare system is under significant strain. Saving lives, preventing negative health outcomes for the wounded and alleviating pressure on medical facilities in the country are some of the key objectives of the ‘Backpacks of Live 2.0’ project,

— comments Dmytro Yakymets, Head of ESG Projects at EPAM Ukraine.

In addition to financial support, EPAM and the Leleka Foundation will also cooperate in raising awareness about the importance of quality tactical medicine and will organise relevant first aid training. By telling combat medics’ stories, the companies aim to increase public awareness about the heroic work of medics at the front line and the need to ensure they have everything necessary to save lives.
