GlobalLogic and Happy Monday have developed the course of video-lectures “IT WAKE UP” to help schoolchildren and students to make a conscious choice of the IT profession.
According to IT Ukraine Association member GlobalLogic, in three years the number of entrants to technical specialties has increased by 20%. To meet the growing demand for IT engineers, not only the number but also the level of training of young professionals is crucial. To help young entrants make conscious career choices and prepare them for future jobs, GlobalLogic and HappyMonday have developed a free course of video-lectures “IT WAKE UP!”
The problem of shortage of IT specialists in the market is becoming more acute. The Ukrainian IT market is growing by an average of 20-25% annually. Thus, in 2020 alone, it brought more than $5 billion in export revenues to Ukraine’s economy. However, the growth of number of engineers does not keep up with business development. Demand for them is growing by 30% annually, and the number of engineers themselves — by 18%.
At the same time, the popularity of technical education is growing. Since 2018, the number of entrants who have chosen the IT field as a future profession has increased by 20%. In 2020, such entrants constituted 15% among all university entrants.
The growing popularity of IT education does not solve the problem of shortage of specialists. Currently, the industry needs at least 54 thousands of new IT engineers, while the average number of graduates of technical universities is 16.2 thousand per year. Due to such a deficit, Ukraine is losing more than $12 million a month.
Also, despite deep theoretical knowledge, young professionals lack practical skills and understanding of how IT companies work. That is why business is interested in ensuring that high school and university students understand the requirements and features of IT professions, the specifics of work and skills that they need to master.
To help young people consciously decide on their education and future careers, understand how engineers work on real projects, and begin to develop the necessary skills, GlobalLogic and the career portal Happy Monday have developed a video course “IT WAKE UP!” for school children, students and young professionals.
Anna Mazur, founder and CEO of Happy Monday, comments:To choose a profession, it is important to learn more about it and meet people who have succeeded in it. Together with GlobalLogic we talk about professions in an accessible form and help to understand how to build a future career at the stage of training. The course is available on the project website. It can be viewed at any time without registration.
