EPAM

ITU Member EPAM Ukraine invites everyone to a charity first aid training focused on bleeding control, taking place in Kyiv on August 2.

Dmytro Yakymets, Head of ESG at EPAM Ukraine, emphasizes that first aid skills are essential not only due to war-related risks — traffic accidents, domestic injuries, and other emergencies also require basic life-saving knowledge before an ambulance arrives.

Backpacks of Life 2.0 is a large-scale strategic partnership project where we not only supply high-quality tactical medical kits to save lives but also raise public awareness and offer civilians essential first aid education,

says Dmytro Yakymets.

The training will be conducted by Tetiana Pesotska, tactical medicine instructor and Senior Operations Specialist at EPAM Ukraine. Special guests: Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Oleksandr Liashuk and his combat cat Shaiba

Theory:

  • Safety when assisting the wounded (biological, legal, environmental);
  • 5 signs of critical bleeding;
  • Bleeding control algorithm;
  • Tourniquet application for limb bleeding;
  • Wound packing and use of direct/indirect pressure;
  • Airway management;
  • Importance of preventing hypothermia;
  • How to properly call an ambulance.

Practice:

  • Applying a tourniquet to upper/lower limbs;
  • Assisting another wounded person;
  • Wound packing techniques;
  • Using direct and indirect pressure;
  • Communicating with the injured;
  • Checking breathing, airway opening, CPR basics;
  • Quick primary casualty assessment;
  • Safe positioning of the victim;
  • Preventing hypothermia.

All proceeds support frontline medics as part of the “Backpacks of Life 2.0” project, jointly implemented by EPAM and the charity foundation Leleka-Ukraine. Over the past year, more than 340 high-quality tactical medical backpacks have been delivered to the front — each capable of saving up to 10 lives. The 2025 goal is to raise 10 million UAH for essential medical supplies.
