Ukraine Signed Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights

The first international agreement in the realm of artificial intelligence was signed by Oleksandr Bornyakov, the Deputy Minister, and Bjorn Berge, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Two years ago, the IT Ukraine Association became a member of a working group tasked with implementing the provisions outlined in the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) and welcomed its adoption in 2024.

The Convention lays out the principles that the state must adhere to when formulating legislation and utilising AI products within the public sector.

Key principles are:

• Respect for human dignity and autonomy, alongside the protection of privacy.
• Transparency, oversight, and non-discrimination.
• The safety of innovations and reliability.

The signing of this convention marks a significant step for the advancement of AI within a digital state. Ukraine isn’t merely joining the technological future; it’s actively shaping it according to global standards, alongside leaders in the field. 15 governments have signed the convention, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the EU, Israel, Japan, and members of the Council of Europe.
