EPAM and the IMF Launch StatGPT 2.0, a Generative AI Platform for Working with Global Economic Data

EPAM

EPAM Systems, Inc. (NYSE: EPAM), a leading company and member of the IT Ukraine Association, specialising in digital transformation services and product development, has unveiled its new platform, StatGPT 2.0, created together with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The platform has undergone testing and received evaluations from representatives of the sponsoring organisations SDMX (Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange) and several national statistical agencies. StatGPT 2.0 was presented at the IMF Statistical Forum 2024: Measuring the Impact of AI on the Economy. EPAM developed StatGPT based on the EPAM DIAL and EPAM QuantHub platforms, forming the foundation for future analytics and conversational data research solutions.

The first version of StatGPT, StatGPT 1.0, was introduced in October 2023 at the SDMX World Congress in Bahrain, followed by demonstrations at numerous other forums. The new version, StatGPT 2.0, showcases a fresh approach to data accessibility and user interaction in managing and sharing statistical data.

This version, built on EPAM DIAL technology, was developed in close collaboration between EPAM experts and the IMF over the past six months. The platform allows users to access and work with global economic and financial data using natural language. This approach is more effective than current query tools, ensuring users are guided to the required data and understand how best to use it.

The evaluation of StatGPT 2.0 included eight publicly available data sets from international and national statistical agencies. It was conducted by over 100 representatives of SDMX sponsor organisations and national statistical agencies.

As a user of economic and financial statistics, I am thrilled with the creation of the StatGPT 2.0 GenAI platform, which will significantly improve how users access global economic data. The updated StatGPT 2.0 platform will seamlessly guide users to the specific data they need,

said Jim Tebrake, Deputy Director of the IMF’s Statistics Department.

Creating the StatGPT 2.0 platform in collaboration with the IMF’s Statistics Department has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I am proud to share that we received positive feedback from both the global community and IMF testers,

said Ilya Gorelik, Vice President and Head of the Reliable AI Lab (RAIL) at EPAM.

SDMX (Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange) is a set of technical standards that facilitates the standardisation of statistical data and metadata exchange among international organisations such as the IMF, European Central Bank, Eurostat, World Bank and others. SDMX is published as ISO 17369.

The IMF is a multilateral organisation that works to promote sustainable economic growth and prosperity for its member countries. It does this by supporting economic policies that foster financial stability and currency cooperation, which are critical for enhancing productivity, creating jobs, and improving economic well-being.
